Guitar Types – The Acoustic Guitar

Posted by Ed on 22nd June 2010 in fender acoustic guitars

By Vienna Geerlings

The acoustic guitar is also known as the western guitar. It has six steel strings and produces a full, smooth, warm and quite metallic sound (this depends on the type of strings you put on it though).

This type of guitar is used in the most popular pop and western music.

It is a little bit more difficult to play compared to an electric because the strings are further from the fretboard.

There is one big advantage though. You only need your guitar in order to play some great music, while you need an amplifier when you want to play on an electric. This type of guitar is great for playing outside (like a camping or a park for instance). There are also acoustics available which you can play through an amplifier as well (these are called acoustic electrics). Sometimes these guitars have a great sound when plugged in, but they do not sound so great when played acoustic because of the thinner body. Just try before you buy…

Among acoustic guitars there are a lot of differences in the materials which are used to make an instrument.

Some guitars have a laminated top, while others have a solid top (which is much better according to a lot of people, but it is more expensive as well). Some types of wood are better than others as well.

Basically there are 3 different price ranges of acoustic guitars: beginner guitars, ‘better’ guitars for intermediate players and high-end guitars. There are also different shapes available: the concert shape, the auditorium shape, the dreadnought shape and the jumbo shape. There are also a lot of different colours and prints available and you can even get your own custom made guitar. Your choice depends on your personal preferences. Try every type so you know which one is best for you.

Most acoustic guitars have a pick guard to protect the top from “plectrum scratches”.

Cheap Acoustic Guitars Online

Posted by Ed on 22nd June 2010 in fender starcaster acoustic guitars

By Christopher M. Hall

Cheap acoustic guitars are absolutely perfect for those that want to learn how to play a guitar without spending a lot of money. Many times when starting a new hobby you aren’t sure if you are going to continue the hobby for any amount of time. So it makes sense to buy something inexpensive to get started, and cheap acoustic guitars are inexpensive but still work well enough to let you learn how to play.

So let us take a look at some of the most popular cheap acoustic guitars you can find at Amazon.com.

The Fender Starcaster acoustic guitar is very popular. Of course, Fender is a very well known name when it comes to guitars so you would expect their products to be very good quality. You can buy this guitar for $199 brand-new, or you can find a used or refurbished guitar at a discount for a little over $100.

This Fender Starcaster instrument is a full-size guitar, but it is relatively light at only 11 pounds. This means that it is very lightweight and can be easily carried around without a lot of effort. It has a spruce top and a mahogany back and sides which really gives it a beautiful color that you would not expect in cheap guitars. This guitar also comes with strings, picks, a strap, a tuner, a bag, and a DVD to teach you how to play the guitar quickly. I suggest you buy this Fender guitar now as this is a great discount, and you will have a hard time finding a better price online.

Another option for cheap acoustic guitars is the Gigmaker made by Yamaha. You can buy this Yamaha guitar at a great discount of only $159. This is $100 off of the normal list price. This guitar also has a spruce top and a Meranti back and sides. This Yamaha guitar is absolutely gorgeous, and you would expect to pay a much higher price for it. This guitar comes with a limited lifetime warranty so you can be confident that it will last as long as you need.

I don’t think that you will find a better discount anywhere online for this Yamaha, and I know you won’t find a better deal at any traditional store. This Yamaha Gigmaker comes with a bag, a strap, picks, strings, and a DVD that will help you learn the guitar faster than you ever thought you could.

Now of all the cheap acoustic guitars that are seen on Amazon.com, this Austin Bazaar full-size acoustic guitar is probably the cheapest. This guitar is made of beautiful black spruce and mahogany, and you can buy this instrument at a discount of only $60. You also get a bag to carry the guitar in and a strap as well. Although you won’t have to pay a lot for this guitar, you can expect it to have a nice decent sound nonetheless. Customers say that it has a very nice tone, and the strings are very easy for a beginner to play.

5 Quality Beginner Acoustic Guitars

Posted by Ed on 22nd June 2010 in Fender Dreadnought Acoustic Guitars

By John Reily

So you’ve decided you want to buy your first beginner acoustic guitar. It can be frustrating trying to figure out which one to buy. With this post I’ve tried to make the process a little easier by doing a lot of research for you. All the beginner guitars reviewed for this post are from manufactures that have a reputation for quality and have been around a long time.

I would advise against buying the cheapest guitar you can find. Even though you’re beginning to play the guitar you want a decent sound. You want a low action so it’s easier to play and learn on.

Since the beginner guitar player is usually not going to go out and spend big money on a new acoustic guitar I’ve taken a look at some guitars under $400 dollars.

They’re all top sellers at the online guitar shops and get high ratings from people that use them.  The reviews are in not particular order.

1. Fender CD60 Dreadnought - The Fender CD 60 has a relatively low action which is good for the beginner guitar player. The dreadnought shape really brings out the low sounds so your chords sound deep and really rich.

The reviews around the internet are great on this guitar.

You might be skeptical that you can get a good guitar with a hard-shell case for $200 bucks. The fact that the Fender CD 60 comes with the case makes it a fantastic deal.

2. Jasmine by Takamine S34C NEX Cutaway -  The Jasmine by the Takamine line of acoustic guitars has consistently been among the top brands for beginner guitar players.

The Jasmine by Takamine S34C NEX Cutaway Acoustic Guitar is a great sounding beginner’s guitar for a reasonable price. Spruce top, nato back and sides, 21-fret mahogany neck, dark-stained rosewood bridge and fretboard, and covered chrome tuning machines. The wood looks nice, the sound and tone is pretty good and plays surprisingly loud.

It’s a decent guitar for the money and you break away for the normal dreadnought guitar and get a cutaway. The Jasmine by Takamine S34C NEX Cutaway is an excellent choice for the beginner acoustic guitar player because it’s inexpensive yet highly playable.

3. Washburn D10S - If you compare this guitar to others in the price range the Washburn D10S acoustic guitar is in the top of the class. This absolutely is a great beginner guitar or for someone who wants a good sounding guitar but can’t afford to break the bank. I read an article about the Washburn D10S in Acoustic Guitar Magazine and they rated it the best guitar for under 500 bucks!

4. Seagull the Original S6 -  This is another great beginner guitar. It’s consistently a top seller at all the online music stores and the Seagull S6 won the silver medal in Acoustic Guitar magazine’s player’s choice awards for 2008. It won the gold for “best beginner guitar” in 2006.

The Seagull S6 cedar acoustic guitar is a great-looking a beginner guitar. It’s an award winner that has the perfect combination of precision and low price!

5. Yamaha F335 - This is a good guitar to start learning on and will be quite helpful for a beginner guitar player because the action is low. Action refers to the space between the strings and the fretboard and a low action is much easier to play for the beginner.

The Yamaha F335 guitar sounds pretty good, plays good for the beginner guitar player, and the F335 is the easiest on the budget of the five.

I hope you enjoyed this article. You can see the full article at: http://totallyacousticguitar.com/acoustic-guitar-reviews/beginner-acoustic-guitar.

There are many more acoustic guitar reviews and information at http://www.totallyacousticguitar.com. Almost everything is focused on helping the beginner acoustic guitar player understand what the need to know before and after they buy their new guitar.
I’ve been playing guitar since 1976 but only play my acoustic guitar now. I really enjoy putting my site together and I don’t believe there is another one like it.
